Historic University of Texas Walking Tour: plus BONUS UT Tower Tour!

Explore the vast UT campus for a glimpse of Austin's future as well as its past. Here, state-of-the-art structures -- including information kiosks that can play the school's team songs -- sit next to fine examples of 19th-century architecture. The tour will point out the most interesting spots on campus.

You'll see landmarks like:

UT Tower
The Harry Ransom Center
Littlefield Memorial Fountain and Littlefield Home
Battle Oaks
The Drag

A brief description of each stop's historic importance will be given. We will have an 8 pm reservation to see the view from the beloved UT Tower observation deck! Please bring $6 for the tour ticket.

The 307-foot tall UT Austin Tower, designed by Paul Cret of Philadelphia, was completed in 1937. Through the years, the Tower has served as the University's most distinguishing landmark and as a symbol of academic excellence and personal opportunity.

The observation deck of the UT Tower offers a spectacular view of the UT Campus and the Austin area in all directions. Thanks to the cooperative effort of students, staff, and the University administration, the observation deck has recently been remodeled and reopened to the public for the first time in nearly three decades. As a part of the renovation process, persons with disabilities now also have access to this monumental view.

Where to meet:
The nearest parking garage to our starting point is the San Antonio garage at 25th & San Antonio Street (one block west of Guadalupe). Please park in the garage and meet me on the sidewalk at the corner of 25th St and San Antonio St in front of the garage. Here is a link to a map for the garage. Meet me here at 6:30 sharp!

After our tour, if you're still up for more, we'll head over to Little Woodrow's on The Drag for a nightcap. Thursdays are "Giant Mug Night". $4 domestic drafts.
