Tubing on the San Marcos River

Come enjoy a Lazy 4th of July on the river!
We''ll meet at 9am at the Academy on I-35 and William Cannon. Look for my Green Toyota Camry towards the back of the Academy parking lot.
As far as tubing goes - You have a couple of choices....
1. Bring your own tube (or buy one at Academy for around $13 - the headrest on the tube is worth the additional cost). It costs $1 to get air when you get there --- or we may have someone that comes that brings an air pump (free).
2. Rent one from the Lions Club - $7 without a bottom or $10 with a bottom. Unlimited shuttle rides is included with that price. However, you will need a $20 deposit per person for your tube rental which you will get back at the end of the day.
***If we have more than 15 people that want to RENT tubes, there might be an opportunity to get a discount - but it would need to be arranged in advance. If you are planning on RENTING a tube, please post that in your RSVP.
For those that rent tubes there - once you get done with the river, you can wait and ride the shuttle back and do it again. For those that bring tubes, it is about a 10 minute (very easy) walk from the place where we get out to go back to the beginning to get in again (free) OR you can pay $4 to get a wristband for as many shuttle rides as you want.
We''ll carpool (please bring $2-3 to help whoever volunteers to drive pay for gas). We''ll aim to be down to Rio Vista Park by 10:00am. By the time we get our picnic area set up and then walk to Lions Club to get checked in and get tubes, we hope to be on the river right at 11am.
You''ll want to wear a bathing suit. You''ll also want to bring a change of clothes, sunscreen, water shoes (rocky bottom), hat, $7-10 for Tube (or bring your own), $2 for picnic area, and $3 for gas for carpool drivers.
I''ve officially reserved Picnic Area #3 at Rio Vista Park (for those of you that were with us last 4th of July - it is the exact same picnic area). You should bring coolers/food for the picnic area and we''ll have lunch after our first float down the river. This will be MUCH easier than taking a cooler of food/drinks on the river for such a short float.
Here''s a Map to our EXACT Picnic Site
If you plan on meeting us there, just aim to be at our picnic site at Rio Vista Park by 10:00am. Please let me know if you aren't carpooling with us so that we don't try to wait for you. I will not have my cell phone with me on the river - so once we leave the picnic area to go to the Lions Club, I will have no phone.
Looking forward to it! Email me for any questions.
If you are willing to be a carpool driver (i.e. NOT DRINK), please post that in your RSVP. |
